A Piece of Chimacum History

Old advertising curtain restored and hung!

Al found it deep under the stage while cleaning. Dusty, rotting, ripped down the middle, and rolled around an old metal downspout. We are still trying to determine when it was made. The experts back east are guessing the ‘30s or ‘40s. There appears to have been one sign maker who made the rounds of the PNW as there are very similar ones in Shelton, WA and in Stevenson, OR.

In any case, Katy McCoy - Grange volunteer, put her painting background to good use and did some restoration work, applying mosquito netting reinforcement on the back and touching up the paint where the sign had ripped. Read Lily Haight's article about the curtain in the PT Leader.

In going through old phone books, Al was able to determine that 1962 was the last year we had 3 digit phone numbers. With a little sleuthing into when each of the businesses listed were in business, we can probably date the curtain more accurately. Any information is appreciated. Does anyone remember where it used to hang? We are a little mystified because it is wider than the stage.
