Little Free Pantry Now at Chimacum Grange
Thanks to the Community Wellness Project, one of the three Jefferson County Little Free Pantries is now available at the Chimacum Grange! The cute little "house on stilts" to the right of our front door will be supplied with a variety of edibles appropriate for use by persons without refrigeration. We expect that it will be visited by homeless persons, but also by teenagers on their way home from school and any other persons in our community who are experiencing food shortages during this pandemic period.
The Grange Little Free Pantry is the third one to be installed in Jefferson county; it was installed on October 1st. The others are at the Irondale Church parking lot and at Dove House in Port Townsend. It was built and installed by John Erickson, and initially stocked by the East Jefferson Rotary Club and the Chimacum WeAct club.
Volunteers recruited by the Wellness Project will maintain and stock the pantry on a regular basis. However, we hope that our Grange members will think this is such a great service project for the Grange to the community that they will also take the time to pick out a few extra items from the list below when they shop for themselves and leave them at the Pantry for others. It is not locked, so anyone can stop by anytime to leave items, or, maybe even find something there for themselves.
All non-perishable food items will be accepted. However, the following items have been requested: Staples such as canned tuna, chicken, beef stews, canned salmon, canned bean soups, canned or dried beans, baked beans, canned chili, peanut butter, canned nuts, rice and rice mixes, dry noodles and pastas, noodle mixes, cold cereals, shredded wheat, etc. hot cereal mixes, oatmeal bread, muffin and pancake mixes, whole-grain crackers, granola bars, shelf-stable milks, canned vegetables, vegetable soup, canned tomato products, spaghetti sauce, baby-food vegetables, V-8 juice, canned fruits, raisins, applesauce, dried fruits, baby-food fruits, fruit leather, jelly, jam, honey, tea, coffee, spices, hand sanitizing wipes or small squeeze bottles.
