In my humble opinion, this 1 hr. 13½ minute video is a must watch for anyone who cares about the changing environment and the plight of the many of the world’s people who are hungry! It was totally engrossing, incredibly informative, beautifully filmed, and downright shocking! I’m not sure what the Grange could or should try to do about it in this community, but I’m sure we could come up with something if we put our minds to it! I saw this film compliments of a small article in the Local 20/20 Announcements newsletter, and know that we could be an ally, as we have been in the past when we coordinated efforts to survey our local farmers, to their efforts in the direction of food self-sufficiency for our county. We have also recently partnered with the local Community Wellness Project to have one of their Little Free Pantries installed near the Grange front door. However, we have not assumed responsibility to keep it stocked. That might be a start, if enough Grange members will commit to contribute appropriate food items on a regular basis.
But first, WATCH THE VIDEO. Second, e-mail me with your ideas. Let’s see what we can come up with!
Here is the Local 20/20 introduction:
“This worthy yet entertaining documentary on YouTube is an eye opener. The documentary also goes into wasted land, water and inputs. The documentary is free, with a few ads. Filmmakers and food lovers, Jen and Grant, dive into the issue of food waste and pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on discarded food for 6 months. In addition, the film looks into expiry dates, perfect produce, and portion sizes, supposedly little things that add up to an overwhelming problem.” You can watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR1Y-ieyfjU, on YouTube.
